This "list story" (or poem, if you like) was inspired by incredible performances, amateurs and professionals alike, on a program called Turner South. Each sentence begins with the phrase, "In my South..." and the rest is a description told through the eyes and memories of the performer. I was so inspired that I thought I'd try it myself. If you haven't seen these, check out the book version, My South, at www.turnersouth.com. You can get it for a song on Amazon, and it includes a DVD of the performances. If you are a Southerner—this is a MUST HAVE. If you just wish you understood Southerners—buy this book.
This one is for all my sister friends out there. When I turned forty, I told my husband that the only thing I wanted for my birthday was to hire someone to come clean my house. He had another brilliant plan.
